Hervé and Emanuel’s love story began in the heart of Paris, where fate brought them together during a Gay Tea Dance at a nightclub in the city they both call home. Although they had crossed paths twice before, it was on that particular evening, with one of Hervé’s favorite DJs playing, that everything changed.
Convincing Hervé to step away from the dance floor wasn’t easy, but Emanuel’s persistence paid off. Twenty years later, they are still dancing through life side by side.
Both originally from France, their roots also tell a deeper story of identity and heritage. Hervé comes from Alsace, while Emanuel, born near Paris, proudly carries Portuguese roots that would later inspire one of the most meaningful chapters of their lives together.
From Paris Nights to Forever
From the very beginning, their relationship unfolded naturally and effortlessly. At the time, Hervé lived in the 17th arrondissement of Paris with a flatmate, while Emanuel had his own apartment in the 10th arrondissement. They quickly became inseparable, spending nearly every evening together until life presented the perfect opportunity to take the next step. When Hervé’s flatmate moved to Madrid, the couple moved in together, a moment that marked the true beginning of their shared home and life.
Over the years, they discovered how perfectly they complemented one another. Hervé describes himself as calm, rational, and grounded, while Emanuel brings spontaneity, creativity, and emotional openness into their relationship. Emanuel affectionately calls Hervé “my haven of peace”, because his quiet strength has always brought comfort and balance. Together, they are, as they beautifully describe it, “like Yin and Yang.”
Their connection has always been built on shared passions: good food, music, concerts, cinema, travel, friends, family, and especially Portugal. For more than a decade, the couple has spent weeks every year exploring the Algarve, Lisbon, and Aveiro, where Emanuel’s sister lives. Portugal gradually became more than just a destination, it became part of their story.
The Proposal That Left Everyone Speechless
After twenty years together, the question of marriage finally arrived in the most unexpected and emotional way. On June 29th, 2020, during Hervé’s birthday celebration at a beloved Parisian restaurant, Emanuel surprised him with a proposal surrounded by their future wedding witnesses and even Hervé’s brother, who had travelled hundreds of kilometers to be there.
The proposal itself reflected their personalities perfectly: heartfelt, playful, and unforgettable. Emanuel had prepared scratching cards as a game to slowly reveal his intentions, but things didn’t go exactly according to plan. Hervé accidentally scratched the final card first, revealing the words: “Will you marry me?” Completely shocked, especially because Emanuel had always insisted he would never marry again after a previous marriage, Hervé needed several long minutes before finally saying yes, leaving Emanuel anxiously waiting for the answer.

When it came time to plan their wedding, choosing Portugal felt deeply personal. They wanted a sunny perfect location where their friends and family could gather to celebrate love, joy, and togetherness. After meeting several planners, they instantly connected with Claudia and the team at Algarve Dream Weddings. Their wedding weekend became everything they had dreamed of and more. The ceremony took place at Nossa Senhora da Rocha, overlooking the ocean, followed by a clifftop cocktail reception and an unforgettable evening dinner and party at Morgado do Quintão, surrounded by vineyards, nature, sunshine, and an ancient olive tree they both immediately fell in love with.

The atmosphere they envisioned was elegant yet understated: white, black, and grey tones, modern and refined, with authenticity always at the center. Every detail reflected who they are as a couple.
Looking back, they describe the entire experience in one word: unforgettable. From the vintage car and fireworks to the saxophonist, pool party, childcare, and carefully selected local vendors, every detail was orchestrated seamlessly behind the scenes. Even when unexpected challenges arose, including a last-minute venue issue and logistical complications, Claudia and her team handled everything without the couple ever noticing.
A Wedding Weekend Filled With Magic
Most importantly, the weekend became exactly what they had hoped for: a celebration not only of their marriage, but of gratitude toward the people they love most. Nearly four years later, their family and friends still talk about the magic of those days in Portugal. Yes, that’s right… this is a love story from 2022 and a friendship that grows every year between Hervé, Emanuel, Claudia & Cassandra. It´s always a must for us all to meet up on their wedding anniversary and celebrate together the magic and love of their union.
Their Advice to Future Couples Dreaming of Portugal
For couples considering a wedding abroad, Hervé and Emanuel offer one simple piece of advice: trust the right people and begin the administrative process early. Beyond that, allow yourself to enjoy every moment.
A sunny destination, breathtaking landscapes, and magical venues. The only downside was the administrative side, especially the documents required for a couple of foreign nationality getting married in Portugal. You really need to start the process well in advance, even though Claudia put us in touch with Maria, a member of the Algarve Dream Wedding team who was an invaluable support for all the local procedures. Maria didn’t only take care of the legal paperwork for Hervé & Emanuel, Maria was also their celebrant, after the legal process was done on the Nossa Senhora da Rocha clifftop at 12 noon on a July morning!
The entire team made our day fabulous. We didn’t have to worry about anything ! Algarve Dream Weddings is made up of exceptional professionals who are always attentive to everyone’s needs. Our only regret is that our wedding went by so quickly… All good things must come to an end!

From my very first interaction with Emanuel and Hervé, despite not being able to meet them in person initially, I immediately sensed something truly special about their relationship. Our first connection happened through a telephone conversation, followed by the exchange of several emails while we began shaping the first drafts of their celebration.
As we discussed the details of the wedding, I quickly realized how remarkably attentive Emanuel was throughout the entire planning process. Every aspect was thoughtfully considered with extraordinary care: the organization, the sequence of the ceremony, the music selections, the poems and readings. Yet what touched me most was the way Emanuel consistently placed Hervé at the center of every decision, always valuing his opinion and ensuring that every choice reflected them both equally.
Every couple expresses love in their own unique way, but with Emanuel and Hervé, it was immediately evident that their relationship was built on pure love, deep respect, and a beautiful, mature complicity.
On their wedding day, the mystical atmosphere of Senhora da Rocha promontory created the perfect setting for such an emotional celebration. Surrounded by family and friends, the couple was welcomed with immense warmth, joy, and heartfelt emotion as they made their entrance together.
The day itself, 30 July 2022 was incredibly hot temperatures exceeded 40 degrees, and even the ocean breeze seemed to disappear. Yet despite the intense heat, the emotion and energy shared between Emanuel and Hervé were so powerful that everyone present could feel it. Their connection, sincerity, and devotion to one another completely transcended the physical setting.
As they exchanged their vows and promises, they did so with genuine emotion, seriousness, and intention. It was evident that every word spoken carried deep meaning for them both. Conducting their blessing ceremony was not only an honor, but also an unforgettable emotional experience, one filled with authenticity, love, and a rare kind of human connection that remains long after the celebration ends.

I am not one for many words, or at least expressing them.
We have celebrated so many love stories, all of which are special and meaningful to us. Every couple is a blessing, and we treasure all with great respect and thankfulness, but some mark you more than others. Hervé & Emanuel are one of those couples.
From the day I personally met them both and we started the venue hunt, I felt a connection and hoped that it was mutual. I just knew that I wanted to be part of their journey from the beginning, and what a journey it has been since 2021, to the wedding year of 2022, and still today, 2026 we have a special connection with Hervé & Emanuel.
They visit the Algarve every year to celebrate their anniversary, and it’s a date between us, them and their best friends and wedding witnesses to meet up have dinner with great wine and so much laughter. We catch up on each other’s lives and make new and true memories together.
