Poetic Magic on the Cliffs of the Algarve: Sevan & Nicole Poetry’s Destination Wedding in Portugal

Some weddings are beautiful.

Some weddings are unforgettable.

And then there are weddings like Sevan and Nicole Poetry’s, a celebration that feels less like an event and more like a story unfolding chapter by chapter, written across oceans, beneath eclipses, beside firelight, and ultimately on the dramatic cliffs of Portugal’s Algarve coast.

Their wedding was inspired by what they lovingly called “Poetic Magic.” For most couples, that might simply describe an aesthetic. For Sevan and Nicole, however, it carried an even deeper meaning.

After all, Poetry is not only the feeling that surrounds their love story.

It’s their family name.

And if ever there was a family destined to embrace romance, wonder, and imagination, it would be the Poetry family.

A Story That Began by Fire

Sevan and Nicole’s journey began on November 6th, 2021, at a social mixer in New York City.

At the time, Sevan had spent nearly two years away from events and large gatherings. When COVID arrived, he closed his event business and withdrew from the social world he had once thrived in. After spending much of that time living quietly in a cabin in Colorado surrounded by nature, and occasionally bears, something told him it was finally time to reconnect with people.

Arriving at the event, however, proved more intimidating than expected.

Feeling overwhelmed by the crowd, he stepped away and did something unusual for a social mixer: he closed his eyes and began meditating in the corner of the room.

Meanwhile, Nicole arrived on her own.

As she scanned the room full of people, one person immediately caught her attention.

There was a man standing quietly with his eyes closed, completely unconcerned with what anyone thought of him.

She was intrigued.

Fifteen minutes later, a fire performance began.

By pure chance, or perhaps fate, Sevan and Nicole found themselves standing side by side.

“It is no coincidence that our love story began by the fire,” they say. “And that fire has been burning ever since.”

What followed was a six-hour conversation that neither wanted to end.

As the evening unfolded, their discussion became increasingly philosophical, thoughtful, and personal. They found themselves captivated by one another’s minds, humour, and perspective on life.

Nicole remembers thinking:

“Wow, this is the funniest man I’ve ever met.”

Sevan remembers thinking:

“Wow, I can’t believe I’ve met someone who actually thinks I’m funny.”

When the night finally came to an end, Sevan walked Nicole to her car. They exchanged numbers, shared a hug, and said goodbye.

Or at least they tried to.

As Nicole leaned casually against a nearby lamp post, she gave him a look that seemed to ask one question:

“Are you going to kiss me already?”

Caught off guard, Sevan happily stepped into the moment.

Despite six hours of conversation, their first kiss wasn’t dramatic or cinematic. It was gentle. Soft. Unexpectedly tender.

As they drove home that night, both carried the same feeling: something important had just happened.

Neither could have known then just how much their lives were about to change.

The Conversation Never Ended

What began beside the fire continued through screens.

Over the following weeks, Sevan and Nicole exchanged countless video messages through Marco Polo, sharing both life’s big questions and its ordinary moments.

Eventually, videos became weekends together.

Weekends became long walks through the city.

Long walks became a relationship built on endless conversation.

“The six-hour conversation from that first night,” they say, “turned out to be only the beginning.”

They discovered a shared love of travel, adventure, creativity, and philosophical exploration. They both possessed a fiercely competitive spirit, but one rooted in growth rather than rivalry.

Together, they challenged each other to think deeper, dream bigger, and experience more of the world.

A Proposal Written in the Stars

If their love story began by fire, their engagement was written in the sky.

On April 8th, 2024, Sevan brought Nicole to a small island on a lake in Vermont.

He chose the location for one reason: it sat directly within the path of a rare total solar eclipse.

The day began with music, games, wine, and laughter at a local winery. Later, they escaped to a secluded hillside where Sevan had arranged a private picnic overlooking the landscape.

Together, they waited for the eclipse.

As darkness slowly swept across the sky, Sevan became increasingly nervous.

When the extraordinary moment finally arrived, he spoke from the heart and asked Nicole to marry him.

She said yes immediately.

The eclipse carried a deeper meaning.

Since the day they met, Sevan had often told Nicole that she had been “adding light” to his life. By proposing beneath the eclipse, he wanted to return that gift and offer her the biggest ring the Universe could provide.

Their story, it seemed, had always been written among the stars.

Finding Their Place Between the Rock and the Sky

Although neither Sevan nor Nicole had ever visited Portugal, they somehow knew what they were searching for.

Long before choosing a venue, they had already imagined the setting.

A dramatic cliffside.

The open ocean.

The feeling of standing somewhere between the rock and the sky.

Again and again, their search led them back to the Algarve.

Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, it offered everything they had envisioned. When they discovered Tivoli Carvoeiro Algarve Resort, they knew immediately.

“The vision had finally found its home.”

Creating a World of Poetic Magic

Their wedding was never about extravagance.

It was about creating a feeling.

An atmosphere.

A world.

When asked about the inspiration behind their celebration, their answer was immediate:

“Poetic Magic.”

From the very beginning, their relationship had felt like an enchanted adventure—romantic, dreamlike, and just a little bit otherworldly.

And so they wanted their wedding day to feel the same.

The concept was especially meaningful given their family name. Every design choice became an extension of the Poetry story itself.

They imagined a celebration that felt lifted from the pages of a fantasy novel.

Something intimate.

Something enchanted.

Something deeply personal.

They wanted their loved ones gathered together in one breathtaking place, far removed from ordinary life, where the entire weekend could feel like stepping into another world.

The Algarve’s dramatic cliffs and endless ocean views created the perfect setting for that vision.

The Dress

Nicole had always imagined a gown that felt whimsical, romantic, and slightly dreamlike.

She found it at Lovely Bride in Tribeca.

It was the seventh dress she tried on.

The moment she saw herself wearing it, words disappeared.

“It’s true what they say,” Nicole shares. “When the dress is the one, you simply know.”

The gown was designed by Floure Studio in Australia and felt perfectly at home within the fairytale atmosphere they had envisioned.

The Little Flower Girl

One of the most meaningful parts of the celebration was having their daughter, Lucy Adaline Poetry, by their side.

At just three years old, she took on the role of flower girl, becoming part of every cherished memory created throughout the weekend.

Today, Sevan and Nicole are building a life together in New Jersey, where they live with Lucy and continue writing new chapters of their story.

A Wedding Weekend to Remember

The celebrations began with a rehearsal dinner at O-STOP, a relaxed beachfront venue that perfectly set the tone for the weekend ahead.

The resort itself exceeded every expectation.

The staff were endlessly warm, the vendors went above and beyond, and every detail felt thoughtfully executed.

One of their favourite discoveries was a quiet breakfast at Encci in Carvoeiro the morning after the wedding.

And for future visitors to Tivoli, they offer one non-negotiable recommendation:

Book the signature massage.

“It was, in a word, next-level.”

A Love Measured in Gratitude

Every evening before bed, Sevan and Nicole share a ritual.

Together, they name three things they are grateful for.

Some nights the list is profound.

Some nights it is beautifully simple.

But the practice never changes.

In many ways, it is the truest reflection of their relationship.

They are two people who pay attention.

To life.

To the world around them.

And most importantly, to each other.

Sevan is grateful for a partner who meets him thought for thought and never allows life to feel ordinary.

Nicole is grateful for a partner who listens deeply, remains fully present, and makes her feel truly known.

Their love is not loud or dramatic.

It is intentional.

Steady.

And quietly full of wonder.

A love measured three gratitudes at a time.

Their Advice to Future Couples

When asked what advice they would give to couples considering a destination wedding in Portugal, their answer came immediately:

“Hire Algarve Dream Weddings”

Planning a wedding across an ocean could have been overwhelming. They were organising a celebration in a country they had never visited, at a venue they had only seen through photographs.

But what made all the difference was finding someone who truly understood their vision.

Their aesthetic was unique, dreamlike, and difficult to describe. Yet Cassandra at Algarve Dream Weddings understood it from the very first conversation.

The greatest testament to her work?

They cannot tell you the moment she saved the day.

Not because it never happened.

But because she made certain nothing ever needed saving.

The day simply unfolded.

Sevan and Nicole remained focused on each other, their family, and the experience itself rather than timelines and logistics.

And if they could leave future couples with one final lesson, it would be this:

“We spent almost a full year with the wrong planner before we found Algarve Dream Weddings, and it taught us that the cheaper option is often the most expensive one in the end. You only get one wedding with the love of your life. Splurge a little. Hire the very best Portugal has to offer. It will be worth every bit when the day arrives.”

For Sevan, Nicole, Lucy, and the Poetry family, that investment resulted in something truly extraordinary.

A wedding filled with wonder.

A celebration filled with love.

And a story worthy of its name.
